Direct Short Service Commission

The Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) is a type of commission in the NAF which is open to both civilians and serving military personnel. 

• The Course provides the avenue for the enlistment of degree holders who are professionals in specified fields.

Training period for this type of commission is usually 6 months of intensive military training and successful candidates are commissioned into the rank of Flying Officer.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS OF YEAR 2025 NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DIRECT SHORT SERVICE ENLISTMENT EXERCISE

Online Registration starts on 24 August 2025 and closes on 5 October 2025.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS

Nationality. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth.

Age. 

Applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 32 years, while Medical Doctors (consultants) could be between the ages of 25 and 40 years at the time of the application. The Exercise is not for serving personnel desiring Branch Commission. Therefore, personnel above 32 years of age are not to apply.

Serving Personnel.  

A serving personnel must be recommended by his/her Commanding Officer/Commander and must have served for 10 years and attained the rank of Cpl.

Height.    

Applicants must not be less than 1.66m tall for males and not less than 1.63m tall for females.

Medical Fitness.  Applicants must be medically, physically and psychologically fit and must meet the Nigerian Air Force medical and employment standards.

Local Government Area Attestation Form.   Applicants’ Local Government Area Attestation Form must be signed only by one of the following:

• Military Officer from the same State as the applicant and not below the rank of Wing Commander  in the Nigerian Air Force or equivalent in the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy.
• Officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner and above.
• Substantive Local Government Chairman/Secretary.
• Magistrates from Applicants’ state of origin.
• The Local Government Area Attestation Form must be accompanied by the passport photograph and photocopy of the signees’ Drivers Licence or National ID Card or International Passport.  

Presentation of Original Credentials.   Successful applicants are required to submit their original credentials for scrutiny during the Selection Interview. The credentials include the following:

• Two recent passport size photographs to be stamped and countersigned by officer of appropriate rank specified in Paragraph 6.
• Original and photocopy of Birth certificate or Declaration of Age.
• Original and photocopy of Educational/Professional Certificates.
• Original and photocopy of Indigeneship certificate from applicant’s Local Government/State of Origin.
• Original and photocopy of Attestation to Good Character signed by Officer of appropriate rank as specified in paragraph 6.
• Applicants must be free of any previous convictions on criminal grounds by a court of law. 

Any applicant suspected to have impersonated or submitted false document(s) shall be disqualified from the Selection Exercise. Also, any false declaration detected later may lead to withdrawal from training. Such applicants will be handed over to the Nigeria Police for prosecution. The Nigerian Air Force will not entertain any enquiries in respect of applicants whose applications have been rejected. Interested applicants are to note that the online registration is FREE OF CHARGE.

Application Form. On completion of the application forms, applicants must print out the underlisted documents:

• Acknowledgment Form.
• Parent/Guardians Consent Form.
• Local Government Area Attestation Form.

Zonal General Aptitude Test.  Zonal General Aptitude Test for successful candidates will hold on a date to be conveyed on this Portal.

Invitation for Interview.  Only successful applicants will be invited for Selection Interview through this Portal. In addition, email and phone numbers could be used as deemed necessary.

ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS

Interested applicants must possess Second Class Upper Division for holders of first degree and Upper Credit for HND holders. An MSc/MA as well as Computer literacy will be added advantages. Likewise, membership of relevant professional bodies is an added advantage. In addition, applicants must possess credit in English Language and Mathematics as well as 3 additional credits related to their course of study.

• Applicants must possess NYSC Discharge Certificate or Letter of Exemption from NYSC at the time of applying for DSSC.
• Medical applicants must possess certificates of registration with their respective statutory professional bodies in Nigeria.

Requirements

Applicants are advised to carefully read the specific disciplines required below before filling the form:

• Air Intelligence.  BSc/MSc Cyber Security or International Relations (Certificate in Ethical Hacking would be an added advantage).
• Communication Information Systems.  
• The requirements for specialties under Communication Information System are as follows:
• BEng/HND Satellite Communication or Satellite Ground Station Engineering or MEng/PGD Satellite Communication System Engineering. Professional certification in ITU Satellite Coordination or VSAT Installation would be an added advantage. 
• BSc/HND Computer Science/Engineering, AI or Robotics or MSc/PGD in Space Mission Software or AI for Space Systems. Professional certification in Space Mission Software or AI for Space Operations would be an added advantage. 
• BEng Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering or MSc/PGD in Rocketry or Space Propulsion Systems. Professional certification in Space Launch Vehicle Design would be an added advantage.
• BSc/HND or MSc in Digital Forensics & Cloud Security. Professional Certification in CHFI, CPN, NCS, AWS Solutions Architect or Microsoft Azure Security Engineer would be an added advantage.
• BSc/HND in Computer/Network Engineering or MSc in Information Security Management. Professional Certification in CCNP Security, CPN, NCS, Fortinet NSE 4-7 or Palo Alto PCNSA/PCNSE would be an added advantage.
• BSc/HND in Software Engineering or Secure Software Development or MSc Software/Application Security. Professional Certification in CSSLP, CPN, NCS, OWASP or Secure Coding would be an added advantage.
• BSc/HND in Robotics, AI or Data Science or MSc in AI, Machine Learning or Autonomous Systems. Professional Certification in TensorFlow Developer Cert, CPN, NCS or Robotics Process Automation would be an added advantage.

BSc/HND in Cybersecurity or IT Security or MSc in Cyber Defence or Threat Intelligence. Professional Certification in CompTIA Security+, EC-Council CND, CPN, NCS or ISO 22301 BCM would be an added advantage.

BSc/HND in Digital/Database Security or Network/Cloud Security or MSc in Database Administration & Security or Cloud Security. Professional Certification in Oracle OCP, CPN, NCS, Microsoft SQL Security or Google Cloud Security Engineer would be an added advantage.

Sports and Physical Education.   BSc Health and Human Kinetics. Certification in Sport Coaching, Fitness Training or Sports Management from National Institute of Sports (NIS) and other recognized Institutions would be an added advantage.

Air Provost.   BSc/BA or MSc/MA in Criminology, Forensic Psychology, Forensic Science, Cyber Security and Communications Art. Professional Certification as Certified Forensic Investigation Professional (CFIP), Certified Protection Officer (CPO) or Certified Security Professional (CSP), Certificate in Criminal Intelligence or Security Management, Certificate in Digital Forensics or Cybercrime Investigation. ICT & Technical Security Skill Proficiency in Surveillance Systems (CCTV), Security Information Management System (SIMS), Digital Evidence Management and Data Analytics for Crime Detection would be an added advantage.   

Education.    BSc (Ed), BA (Ed) or MA/MSc in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Electrical Electronics. Applicants must be registered with Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

Chaplaincy Roman Catholic.  BA Theology/B Theology/B Divinity. Applicant must be a member of one or all of the following professional bodies:

Membership of Catholic Theologians Association of Nigeria (CATHAN).

Membership of Nigeria Catholic Diocesan Priests Association (NCDPA) (for Diocesan Priests) or Membership of a Recognized Religious Body or Congregation (for Religion).

Chaplaincy Protestant.   BA Theology/B Theology/B Divinity. Applicants must have Ordination Certificate or Recommendation Letter from Denomination.

Imam.  BA Arabic & Islamic Studies or BA Ed/BEd Islamic Studies (Education).

Music.  BA or MA Music/Performing Arts/Music & Theatre/Music Business or M. Ed. Music. Applicant must be a member of one or more of the following professional bodies: Society of Music Education of Nigeria (SOMEN), Association of Nigerian Musicologist (ANIM), International Society of Music Education (ISME), Pan African Society of Music Arts Education (PASMAE) and Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).

Administration/Personnel Services.  

BSc or MSc Human Resource Management or Statistics. Applicant must be a member of CIPM, NIM, CISON or PSSN.

Legal Services:   BL with at least 5 years practicing experience. LLM added advantage.

Medical/Dental.   Applicant must possess MBBS, MBChB or BDS from NUC Accredited University and must possess a valid current practicing license from Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

Therapeutics/Diagnostics/Medical Support Services. 

Applicants must have specialists’ qualifications as follows:

Radiography. Bachelor of Radiography from any NUC accredited University. Valid current annual practicing license from Radiographer’s Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN). Annual practicing license 2025. 

Optometry.  Doctor of Optometry from any NUC accredited University. Valid current annual practicing license from Optometrist and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN). Annual practicing License 2025. 

Physiotherapy.   BSc in Physiotherapy as minimum requirement. Doctor of Physiotherapy is an added advantage. Registered with Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTB). Annual practicing License 2025.  

Clinical Psychology. BSc or MSc Clinical Psychology. Registered with Nigerian Psychological Association/Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists. (NPA/NACP). Annual practicing License 2025.  

Biomedical Engineering.   BEng/HND Biomedical Engineering.

Nursing. 

Applicants for the following aspects of nursing must possess BSc Nursing or HND Nursing from NUC accredited University or NBTE accredited College of Nursing Sciences respectively. Must also hold valid current practicing license from Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
