We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Migration Officer

Location: Katsina 

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

The Migration Officer will support the implementation of migration-related activities under the SPRING Project.

This includes addressing drivers of irregular migration, strengthening resilience of vulnerable groups, and promoting inclusive livelihood and governance systems that reduce displacement risks.

  • The officer will assist with field-level migration assessments, community sensitization, coordination with stakeholders, and delivery of livelihood–migration activities that enhance the socio-economic opportunities of youth and women.
  • The role contributes to AYGF’s mission to promote safe migration, peaceful coexistence, and climate-resilient communities.

The Migration Officer will collaborate closely with government agencies, community structures, and development partners (including IOM, UNDP, and WFP) to ensure coherence with national migration, peacebuilding, and climate adaptation frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Implementation and Coordination:

Support the integration and implementation of migration-related activities within project work plans.

Assist in conducting field assessments on migration trends, vulnerability drivers, and community needs.

Liaise with AYGF teams, community structures, and partners to ensure activities align with national migration and resilience priorities.

  • Attend migration-related coordination meetings and represent the project when delegated.
  • Contribute to the development of frameworks and tools for monitoring migration trends linked to climate and resource-based conflict.

  • Represent AYGF in migration-focused coordination meetings, workshops, and policy dialogues.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Migration Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Environmental Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in migration management, resilience programming, or community development in Nigeria or similar contexts.
  • Proven experience working on projects related to climate change, livelihoods, or peacebuilding.

Strong understanding of irregular migration dynamics in northern Nigeria, including youth vulnerability factors.

Experience engaging with government, NGOs, and international partners (e.g., IOM, UNDP, WFP).

  • Excellent facilitation, coordination, and communication skills (written and spoken English required).
  • Proficiency in project management tools, monitoring frameworks, and report writing.
  • Experience in community engagement, dialogue facilitation, and coordination with local stakeholders.

Desired:

Advanced degree in Migration or Humanitarian Studies, Development Practice, or Public Policy.

  • Knowledge of Hausa language and familiarity with Katsina State context.
  • Experience in integrating gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) into migration or livelihood programs.
