Global Peace Development (GPD) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in April 2002 and focuses on promoting peace for development in Nigeria.

  • GPD seeks to build peace, gender equality, social justice, and foster democracy and governance at the community, local, state, and national levels.

Job Summary

The Protection Officer will work under the supervision of the State Coordinator to support the design, implementation, and monitoring of protection activities in Kano State.

  • The role focuses on strengthening protection systems, preventing and responding to Gender-Based Violence and Child Protection concerns, and ensuring that protection principles are mainstreamed across all project activities in the state.

Major Roles & Responsibilities

Implement protection activities in line with approved project plans and donor requirements

Identify, document, and respond to protection risks, including GBV and child protection cases

  • Support case management, referrals, and follow-up in line with established protection protocols
  • Facilitate community sensitization and awareness sessions on protection, GBV, and child rights
  • Ensure safe, confidential, and ethical handling of protection-related data
  • Contribute to protection assessments, monitoring, and reporting
  • Prepare timely activity reports, success stories, and lessons learned
  • Support integration of protection principles across other sectoral interventions

Perform any other duties assigned in support of effective project delivery

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • BSc / HND in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Law, Gender Studies, International Development, or a related field

Experience:

Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in protection programming

  • Demonstrated experience in GBV and/or Child Protection interventions
  • Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or humanitarian/development organizations is an added advantage

Required Skills & Competencies:

Strong understanding of protection principles, GBV, and child protection standards

Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills

  • Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable populations
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
