Program Officer, Primary Health Care (Volunteer)
Position Summary
The Program Officer, Primary Health Care (Volunteer) supports the planning, coordination, and community implementation of primary health care–focused humanitarian programs within Tema Thrive Humanitarian Organization.
This role bridges technical program support, community engagement, and operational coordination to strengthen health service access for vulnerable populations in Borno State, with a priority on women, children, persons with disabilities, and underserved communities.
- Working closely with field officers, program managers, and community stakeholders, the volunteer Program Officer contributes to program design, monitoring and evaluation, training facilitation, and knowledge sharing to support sustainable community health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Health Care Program Support
Support implementation of community-based primary health care initiatives including:
- Maternal and child health promotion
- Nutrition and food security-related health education
- HIV, STI, and infectious disease awareness
- Protection-linked health services and referrals
Assist in adapting health communication and intervention materials to local community contexts.
Community Engagement and Outreach.
- Promote awareness of TTHO programs including gender-based violence prevention, child protection, and primary health education.
Support organization of community outreach activities such as:
- Health sensitization sessions
- Community dialogue forums
- Mobile health support events
- Literacy and health promotion workshops
- Engage respectfully with diverse community members to promote inclusivity and dignity.
- Training and Capacity Building
- Assist in facilitating community training.
Coordination and Administrative Support
- Work with field teams to support logistics, event organization, and documentation.
- Support data entry, meeting preparation, and reporting tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of community activities and outreach outcomes.
Logistics
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria (office and field-based activities)
Time Commitment: Minimum 8–10 hours per week; flexible scheduling available
Duration: Short-term or ongoing volunteer engagement opportunities

Qualifications and Skills
Education
Minimum of high national diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent.
- Background in public health, social work, community development, education, or related fields is an advantage but not mandatory.
Experience
- Interest in primary health care, humanitarian programming, or community development.
- Volunteer or field work experience is a plus.
Core Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of community health or humanitarian programming.

- Basic data collection or reporting skills.

Language
- Knowledge of local languages in Borno State is an advantage.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
