State Focal Persons (SFP) for "WatchingTheVote (WTV) Project
Yiaga Africa is a civic hub of change makers committed to promoting democratic governance, human rights, and civic participation.
WatchingTheVote is Nigeria’s largest citizen-led election observation initiative, designed to enhance electoral integrity, build citizens’ confidence in the electoral process, and promote credible elections.
- The State Focal Person will serve as Yiaga Africa’s lead representative in their respective state during the 2027 elections.
- They will coordinate election observation activities, manage volunteers, and ensure effective communication between Yiaga Africa and stakeholders at the state level.
Duties & Responsibilities
Observer Management:
Recruit and manage WTV LGA Supervisors, ensuring they reside within their assigned LGAs.
- Support LGA Supervisors in recruiting WTV PU Observers, ensuring they reside near their assigned polling units.
- Ensure all assigned LGA Supervisors and PU Observers observe pre-election activities and submit reports.
- Ensure observer accreditation by INEC through the submission of recruitment forms and details to the WTV team.
- Support LGA Supervisors in ensuring PU Observers conduct Election Day observation at their assigned polling units and submit reports.
Training:
Assist the Training Manager and Program Officer in conducting trainings for WTV observers and LGA supervisors in line with project guidelines.
- Conduct (with WTV Trainers) Election Day Observation workshops for WTV LGA Supervisors and WTV PU Observers.
- Support LGA Supervisors in making logistical preparations for observer workshops.
Reporting & Communication:
Report to your assigned WTV Zonal Program Officer and the WTV Management team as required.
- Maintain frequent contact with your assigned WTV Zonal Program Officer.
Contribute to the identification and documentation of best practices and lessons learned from the WTV project.
Stakeholders Engagement:
Serve as Yiaga Africa’s official representative in the state during the election cycle.
- Promote the mission and objectives of WatchingTheVote to stakeholders.
Liaise with election stakeholders, including INEC, civil society, media, and security agencies.
Logistics & Administration:
- Account for WTV funds and properties under your management in accordance with Yiaga Africa’s procedures.
- Oversee logistical preparations for workshops and stakeholder engagements
Competencies
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Law, Political Science, or related fields.
- Proven experience in civic engagement, election observation, or project management.
- Non-Partisant and apolitical.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate work and meet deadlines.
- Ability to engage with election stakeholders.
- Resident in the state of application.
