What is it?

The PHEPRR Fellowship is a 4-month training program created by Georgetown University, ICAP at Columbia University, and the US CDC. 

• It aims to enhance your skills in preparing public health programs for emergencies, ensuring the programs can manage increased demands while maintaining essential services during crises.
• As a major deliverable, participants will implement a capstone project aimed at improving their public health program’s capacity to prepare for, respond to, and build workforce capabilities in the face of emergencies.
• Announcing the Second Cohort of the Public Health Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery (PHEPRR) Fellowship.

I am pleased to share that applications are now open for the second cohort of the PHEPRR Fellowship, a four-month hybrid training program designed to strengthen surge capacity and build a skilled public health emergency workforce across West Africa.

In-Person Session: March 1–7, 2026

Location: Banjul, The Gambia

Developed jointly by Georgetown University (GU), iCAP, the CDC Emergency Response Capacity Team (ERCT), and the CDC West Africa Regional Program, this fellowship equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to prepare for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies.

We are seeking mid-career, multi-sectoral public health professionals who hold decision-making responsibilities but have not previously been trained or engaged in emergency preparedness or response. 

• Selected fellows must commit to the in-person sessions in March and again during the tentative July 2026 closing activities.

Travel, accommodation, and meals are covered (no stipends)

Who can Apply?

We are looking for mid-career public health professionals (national, district and local level) from various sectors, who are interested in improving their skillset and program’s capacity in public health emergencies. Sectors may include:

• Ministries of Health, Agriculture, Environment, etc.
• National Public Health Institutes
• Disease-specific programs (e.g., HIV, Polio, Influenza, etc.)
• Clinical settings (e.g., hospitals, clinic, pharmacy, etc.)

Eligibility

Must be a citizen and resident of a West African coun-

try with a valid/active passport Must speak and write in English

• Must have at least 5 years of experience in public health
• Must have been in your current job for at least 12 months
• Must be committed to the program (6 hours/week with two-week in-person travel) and have support from your supervisor
• Must have basic computer skills and access to a laptop and the internet
