- ACF Nigeria is currently looking to fill the role of WASH Engineer to lead and ensure the effective implementation of WASH technical activities under the GAC project, focusing on improving access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices, supporting the rehabilitation of community assets, and enhancing the resilience of vulnerable communities in Yobe State
Position Details
Reporting to: Programme Manager
Proposed start date: March 2026
Key Responsibilities:
Objective 1: Overall supervision of water and sanitation construction activities including preparing technical designs and bills of quantities
- Support the governance and sustainable access to safe water by working with RUWASA, LGAs, and other stakeholders to implement WASH governance recommendations.
- Together with partner, conduct technical assessments, prepare designs, and develop Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for water and sanitation facilities rehabilitation, upgrade and new construction.
- To visit sites and ensure quality assurance of construction being delivered and adherence to design specifications
- To make sure that the technical activities are up to the ACF standards (WASH package)
Facilitate the selection, design and construction of sanitation and water systems. In water using ground water or surface water, including abstraction, storage, treatment and distribution for new systems or rehabilitation of existing systems.
Additional Responsibilities
Regularly engage with implementing partners to gather insights, provide technical feedback, and address challenges in WASH implementation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of WASH practices by documenting lessons learned, sharing best practices, and participating in sectoral coordination meetings and workshops.
- Ensure that all WASH activities comply with SPHERE minimum standards and other relevant guidelines, maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, and sustainability.
Advocate for the integration of WASH services with other sectoral interventions, including health, education, and livelihoods, to maximize the impact and sustainability of the project.
Position Requirements:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree/HND in Civil Engineering, Water engineering, Geology, Building and other related fields
At least 3 years of progressive experience in supervising WASH-related construction activities, including the design and implementation of water and sanitation infrastructure.
- Previous experience in supervising water and sanitation construction and rehabilitation activities
- Experience working in the humanitarian sector, preferably with ACF
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with communities and government stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt and be flexible in changing environments.
- Fluent in Hausa and English, with excellent report-writing and technical presentation skills.
- Kanuri language ability is an advantage.
