MEAL Coordinator at Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)

- JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Project Director, and with a technical reporting line to the Country MEAL function, the MEAL Coordinator leads Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning for the action across the EiE, WASH and Protection components.
- Based full-time in Sokoto, S/He designs and maintains the project monitoring system, leads data collection, quality assurance and analysis, manages the beneficiary feedback and complaints mechanism in line with Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) commitments, and facilitates learning and adaptive management.
The MEAL Coordinator ensures that credible, timely and protection-sensitive evidence informs decision-making, donor reporting and engagements with monitoring and evaluation missions.
Key Responsibilities of the position
Develop and maintain the project MEAL plan, logframe and indicator tracking tables across all components.
Design and oversee data collection tools and processes, including the use of mobile data collection (e.g., Activityinfo, KoBoToolbox), baselines, midline/endline studies, post-distribution monitoring and assessments.
- Lead routine field monitoring and data verification, and ensure data quality, integrity and timeliness.
- Establish and manage the project Complaints and Feedback/Response Mechanism (CRM) in line with AAP and Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) commitments.
- Analyse monitoring data and produce dashboards, indicator updates and evidence-based inputs to internal and donor reports.
- Facilitate learning reviews, lessons-learned exercises and adaptive management with the project team.
- Build the capacity of project staff on data collection, AAP and protection-sensitive data handling.
- Ensure ethical, safe and confidential data management, including the protection of personally identifiable information (PII).
- Support internal and external evaluations and coordinate responses to donor monitoring and evaluation missions.
- Coordinate with the Country MEAL function and report to the Project Director.
- Ensure compliance with the Internal Rules and Procedures of JRS in all MEAL activities.

Promote PSEA and safeguarding standards within JRS and amongst the beneficiaries it serves.
Required Profile
Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in Statistics, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Monitoring & Evaluation or any related field; a Master's Degree in a related field is an added advantage.
- Professional / Work Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation within humanitarian or development programming, including experience establishing accountability and feedback mechanisms.
Experience and Skills
Strong knowledge of MEAL frameworks, logframes, indicator tracking and humanitarian standards (CHS, AAP).
- Proven experience with mobile data collection (e.g., Activityinfo/KoBoToolbox/ODK) and quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.
- Strong data analysis and visualisation skills, including advanced MS Excel; knowledge of Power BI, SPSS or similar is an advantage.
- Experience designing and managing complaints and feedback/response mechanisms.
- Good understanding of protection-sensitive and ethical data management, including PII protection.
- Good analytical, writing and reporting skills.
- Ability to build staff capacity on data collection and accountability.
- Ability to work in stressful and hard-to-reach locations.
- Excellent attention to detail, well organised and able to meet deadlines.
- Good communication, interpersonal and coordination skills.
Strong commitment to safeguarding and protection-sensitive programming.
Qualities

- Proficient command of the English language (written and oral).
- Good command of Hausa Language is required.
- Proven work experience in multicultural and stressful environments.
