MEAL/Communication Officer at Concern for Women & Children Development Foundation (COWACDI)


The MEAL and Communications Officer will lead the project’s monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning processes and oversee the project’s visibility and documentation strategy. 

  • S/he will ensure that implementation across LGAs aligns with
  • COWACDI’s and donor MEAL frameworks.
  • S/he will ensure systematic data collection, quality assurance, and timely reporting.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the project’s MEAL plan and performance monitoring framework. 
  • Coordinate baseline, midline, and endline data collection across target LGAs.
  • Support data analysis and production of progress and final reports in line with donor templates.
  • Ensure functionality of feedback and complaint mechanisms (CFM) at all project sites.

Conduct regular field monitoring visits and data verification exercises.

Manage project visibility and communication - including success stories, photo documentation, and social media updates.

  • Compile lessons learned, best practices, and human-interest stories for donor visibility and organizational learning.
  • Facilitate quarterly reflection and learning sessions with field teams and community stakeholders.
  • Mentor and supervise three MEAL/CFM Assistants to ensure timely, quality reporting.

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Development Studies, Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, Public Health, or related disciplines. 

(Additional certifications in M&E (like PMP, Logical Frameworks, or specific M&E courses) can boost skills and marketability.)

  • At least 3–5 years of experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) within humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Proven experience in project communication, documentation, and knowledge management.
  • Certification in M&E, data management, or communication preferred.

Desirable Skills:

Strong analytical and report-writing skills.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Detail-oriented with a high level of data accuracy.

  • Demonstrated creativity in producing communication content.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills.
  • Proficiency in M&E tools, software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, Tableau).
  • Excellent report writing and communication abilities.

Understanding of project management and implementation.

Knowledge of statistical and qualitative analysis methods.

Ability to develop and interpret indicators and surveys.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to speak and understand the local language(s) is essential.
  • Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Basic understanding of child protection, gender, and social inclusion principles (an added advantage).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nigerian national with demonstrated experience in MEAL and communication in humanitarian programs.
  • Excellent knowledge of data tools (Kobo, Power BI, ODK) and reporting frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of protection, gender, and accountability to affected populations (AAP).

Language required:

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required. 
  • Hausa and Native Language of the area would be an added advantage.
